Sinus - Sinusitis
Sinusitis is an inflammation of the lining of one or more of the four paranasal sinuses. The frontal sinuses, which are in the forehead just above the eyes, and the maxillary sinuses, which are behind the cheekbones, are the ones that are commonly affected.
There are two types of sinusitis: Acute and Chronic.
Acute sinusitis is usually caused by an infection - bacterial, viral or fungal - but a common cold is the most frequent cause. The nasal inflammation and mucus congestion, due to a cold, may prevent proper drainage and removal of bacteria from the sinus, resulting in infection.
Chronic sinusitis often results in people who suffer from long-term allergies or repeated, previously untreated acute infections.

What are the symptoms?
Sinusitis sufferers may experience some or all of the following symptoms:
Nasal congestion
Cough
Fever
A bad-tasting postnasal drip
A thick, greenish nasal discharge
Feeling of facial fullness
Headache
Sneezing
Runny nose
Watery and itchy eyes
Pain or tenderness around the eyes or cheeks
Runny nose

Sinus - Pain

Why is there pain?

The pain is caused by a sequence of events:
An infection of the upper respiratory tract or allergic reaction
Swelling of the nasal and sinus tissue linings
Obstruction of drainage fluid in the sinus cavities
Increased pressure on tender inflamed tissue
What causes sinus headache? Sinus headache occurs when blockage of the paranasal sinuses causes inflammation or distension (tightness, swelling) of the sensitive sinus walls. Pain tends to occur upon awakening and may subside gradually after the sufferer has been upright for a while. Bending over or blowing the nose often intensifies the pain.
How does Sudafed PE work? Phenylephrine acts on the mucosa of the respiratory tract, producing vasoconstriction, which results in shrinkage of the swollen nasal mucosa membranes and other swollen tissue, and a reduction in the excess fluid, which helps clear nasal congestion.
Other products in the range also contain Paracetamol (analgesic) and Chlorpheniramine Maleate (antihistamine) which aid in the relief of symptoms experienced with the common cold in conjunction with nasal congestion.
