  How it Works

When you come into contact with something you're allergic to, your body produces a substance called histamine. Histamine causes symptoms like sneezing, itchy eyes and/or mouth, runny nose and/or itchy, swollen skin (hives).

Zyrtec® contains an antihistamine called cetirizine hydrochloride that helps block the effects of histamine to relieve the symptoms of:

HAYFEVER
										Hayfever and allergies are two
										different forms of Allergic Rhinitis.
										Rhinitis means 'inflammation of the
nose', so 'Allergic Rhinitis' is when
										nasal symptoms occur following
										exposure to an allergen.

										If you only experience symptoms
at certain times of the year (like
Spring or Summer), you could be
allergic to various types of pollen
carried by the wind. When people
										talk about hayfever, they're usually
										referring to Seasonal Allergic
										Rhinitis.
ALLERGIES
										Hayfever and allergies are two
										different forms of Allergic Rhinitis.
										Rhinitis means 'inflammation of the
nose', so 'Allergic Rhinitis' is when
										nasal symptoms occur following
										exposure to an allergen.

										Perennial Allergic Rhinitis can
happen at any time of year. It is
										caused by allergens like house
										dust mites, particles from family
pets known as animal dander, or
moulds that are carried in the air.
HIVES
Nearly one in five people will
										develop hives some time during
their life and hives are most
common in children.* Hives look like
mosquito bites and they range in
										size. Although some unlucky
people can have them every day for
a week, hives usually disappear in
minutes or hours. But they may
										reappear following infection, at
times of stress or for no particular
										reason. Prolonged hives, where the
										cause cannot be identified, is
										referred to as Chronic Idiopathic
										Urticaria.

Zyrtec is known as a 'second generation' antihistamine, it's long
lasting and less sedating than earlier 'first generation' antihistamines.
Zyrtec is most effective when taken early, at the start of the allergy season
or as soon as the symptoms develop.
Always read the label and use only as directed. If symptoms persist, please see your health care professional.
